Women Empowerment
Oigara Community Foundation (OCF) is CBO with a mission focusing on nurturing talents, through promoting knowledge, skills, and projects to empower individuals and communities for development and poverty reduction. This project builds on the experiences in the community empowerment project previously implemented by OCF. The objective is empowering women and youths in informal settlements, often the most under targeted by strengthening their individual and organizational capacities to transform their social and economic activities to improve livelihoods.
The project evolves from emergency assistance and focuses on long-term livelihood project, aimed at strengthening the informal financial groups, known as ‘Chamas’, to transform to profitable ventures. This project will work in three sub- counties within Nairobi, (3 slums/informal settlements) where the communities are affected highly effected by poverty. The project also seeks to address youth unemployment crisis by mentoring talented youths through career development programs that improves fresh graduates’ employability in the formal sector and talent based- self-employment initiatives.
The project has been designed in line with Kenya development vision 2030 for economic and macro pillar with a focus on trade, financial services and business process outsourcing for those in the informal ‘juakali’ sector, and the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2018-2022, which outlines Nairobi County Major investment areas. This is also in line with The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)1- No poverty, 2-Zero hunger and 6-Gender Equality, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015(envision 2030) as a universal call to action to end poverty and enhance gender equality.
