Reviving the lost glory for Tendereti primary school

 Family Train Their Attention and Resources Back Home As Away of Thanking Community For According Them Solid Foundation In Their Educational Sojourn.

For the last three years, Tindereti Primary School in Borabu Sub County, Nyamira County has immensely benefited from a family of former, boys and girls to improve performance.

The brothers and sisters operating under the auspices of William and Dinah Oigara Community Foundation, named after their late parents have ensured the school that was once and academic giant gets back to its years of shining in national examinations.

It was song and dance when the sponsors visited the school early this month to monitor its progress and mentor the learners.

Led by Dr Joyce Oigara the Director of Oigara community Foundation and Prof James Oigara, a Professor at Canisius College in the USA, the family members donated books, writing materials and gave motivational speeches in a ceremony attended by School management and local leaders.

The family foundation donated reading books for class one to eight.  Prof Oigara informed the meeting that his university faculty members had identified Tindereti Primary School to be a collaboration center for Africa for a project where rural schools were to benefit in terms of books, sports equipment and sending their teachers to support  the school during summer classes ( between May to June).

However a pioneer delegation team from The USA that was to visit the school to initiate the project for a month was diverted to Tanzania following the terrorist attack at Garissa University College where 147 students perished.

“I hope the situation will improve so that my colleagues and learners can visit to commence the programme,”  said prof Oigara.

On her part, Dr Oigara said she had sourced for collaboration with other partners to support girls in the school with sanitary towels to increase their retention in class, noting that most of them missed classes for lack of appropriate support.

“We have not left out the boy-child but the girls are more vulnerable given their conditions, while the boys also need mentorship and role modeling,” she observed.

She said she was concerned by declining performance at her former primary school yet its had produced great men and women in the academic world including many Professors in some who are key academicians in higher institutions of learning.

Borrowing from biblical teachings, she advised the pupils to dedicate their lives to serving God saying that was the only way to succeed in their studies and endeavors in life.

Pastor Omete who gave spiritual nourishment to the learners, hailed the initiative by the Oigara family saying it was very important to the school fraternity especially the upper classes.

 

School head teacher, Mr Fideris Onduso was full of praise for the Oigara family for the gesture and appealed to other well wishers to emulate them in assisting the school achieve its objective of moldings responsible citizens.

And thanking the Oigara family for encouraging the candidates, Mwalimu Gitongori Nyaribo,a retired teacher from the school said it was a rare gesture since not many remembered home once they ventured and excelled in the outside world.

He implored the Oigara’s to mobilize other former pupils of the school to plough back to the institution to improve its performance.

This donation today brings to total of over 500 books at an  estimated value of  Ksh200,000 that the Oigara foundation has donated. 

Challenges to the School

The head teacher said the school was faced with a number of problems including chronic absenteeism among girls, a large number of orphaned children, lack of a modern library and ICT center.

In support of the award, the pupils, parents and teachers promised to work extra hard to improve and post good results at the school where Mwalimu William Oigara was once head teacher and his wife Dinah a teacher  in the same school.
