Oigara Community Foundation provides hygiene towels to Tindereti Primary School
William and Dinah Oigara Foundation was at a function in Tindereti Primary School in Gesima Settlement Scheme Nyamira County to give back to the School community. In November 2015,the Foundation was hosted at the school in support the girl child education in the school. In her donation remarks, the director of the foundation Dr Joyce Oigara who was represented by Judith Oigara highlighted the essence of this support.
The Oigara foundation is glad to support the girls with sanitary towels. This donation will contribute to needed hygiene environment for the girls towards academic excellence.
Studies done by UNESCO estimates that about 10% of adolescent girls in rural African areas miss school during their biological cycles, and some eventually drops out of school. Other studies also show that many girls in Kenya miss between 3-5 days of school every month during their monthly cycles due to lack of sanitary towels. A girl absent from school for four days in a month will miss two weeks of learning in a school term. This makes it hard for girls to effectively compete with boys in education.
Based on this , Oigara Community foundation in collaboration with Saidia Dada Network, a partner NGO has made available 400 disposable sanitary towels for about 100 girls. The initial donation will cover a period of 3 months and plans are underway mobilize more supplies. The towels are also accompanied with a user Manual guide book and 200 pairs of girls underwear .
The value of the sanitary towels Donation is about Ksh 100,000 ( approx. US$1000)
